Eurasian Milfoil arrived in the Great Lakes Region in the 1960s and has spread now to the Mississippi River. It is quickly becoming the dominant aquatic weed. It spreads by having short pieces of the plant move from lake to lake by boats and other watercraft. Because it grows so fast and becomes so thick, it makes lakes or rivers unusable for fun things like swimming, boating, and fishing. Controlling Eurasian milfoil means you have to be aware of how it spreads. Removing fragments of the plant from your boat or other watercraft are necessary to prevent the spread of the plant to other lakes or rivers.
